CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is for 6th & 7th graders. The Confirmation Service itself occurs the following October when the student is in 8th grade.
This is literally a preparation for "Affirmation of Baptismal Vows." We cover the basics of "Luther's Small Catechism." This includes: The Ten Commandments, Apostles' Creed, Lord's Prayer, Office of Sacraments and Confession. We also expect students to know the names of the 66 books of the Bible. The students cover this in class, as well as with their adult mentors. The ministry is intended to be practical in nature. So required worship duties include Acolyte Ministry, assisting in the local church/community dinner events, and other church related events. These worship and church related ministries replace any tests. One final interview before the Church Council is required before Confirmation. Our vision is to learn and yet have a good fellowship.
SPARKS
Our children meet on Wednesday nights from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.
The children will sing during the Elgin Service the 2nd Sunday of the month and on Palm Sunday.
FIRST COMMUNION
First Communion classes are offered once per year (in October) We cover both the church and biblical reasons for communion. Students will use a workbook with questions and discussion. This is usually about four one hour sessions in the church library. Students who are already in or going into the 5th grade of school have participated in this ministry. Please contact the Church office if you are interested in participating in this sacramental ministry.
